Basic Fertility Work Up

If you are having difficulty trying to conceive, here are some baseline fertility testing you can request:

Labs That Can Be Drawn At Any Time

**Total and free testosterone
**Androstenedione
**DHEAS
**SHBG
Thyroid work up (TSH, Free T4 and T3)
Prolactin
CMP

** If you do not have a high LH to FSH ratio, you may not need these.

Timed Labwork

Cycle Day 3 Lab

LH
FSH

Day of LH Surge Lab

FSH
LH
Estradiol
Progesterone
*Ultrasound to assess uterine lining thickness and follicle size

2 to 3 days After LH Surge

Repeat ultrasound to insure ovulation and rule out lutenized unruptured follicle (LUF) syndrome (eggs ripen but do not release from the follicle)

7 Days After Ovulation Lab

Estradiol
Progesterone

Labs For Any Cycle Day But Should Be Fasting**
*Fasting= Nothing but water by mouth after midnight the day before testing

Lipid Panel
Glucose tolerance test (this takes several hours)


Other Tests

HSG - Make sure to schedule BEFORE ovulation

Laparoscopy with or without endometrial biopsy - 11 to 13 days after LH surge AFTER beta HCG (must be negative-of course)
